HMD Kontro sealless magnetic drive pumps conform to many international industry standards. This ensures that pumps deliver the best and most reliable performance for specific applications.
Standards include ISO, API, ASME and ANSI. HMD Kontro conforms and complies with all the various standards that relate to how HMD’s manufacturing facilities operate and how the pumps & pump components are produced.

ISO Certification:
HMD’s certification to ISO standards demonstrates:
- Credibility to customers
- Delivery of consistent products & services
- High customer satisfaction
- Consistent operations
- Improved efficiency and reduced waste
ISO 9001:2015 – Quality Management System Standard
ISO 9001 is the international standard for a Quality Management System (QMS) and is accepted worldwide. It is part of the ISO 9000 family of standards and demonstrates HMD’s ability to consistently provide products and services that meet both customer and regulatory requirements as well as demonstrating continuous improvement. Being ISO 9001 Certified means that HMD has met all of the requirements and that HMD’s QMS (Quality Management System) is appropriate and effective.
ISO 45001 – Health & Safety Standard
ISO 45001 is an independent standard for health and safety at work. It was developed by national and international standards committees. It was introduced in March 2018 to replace the current OHSAS 18001. HMD Kontro migrated from the old standard with no non-conformances, to maintain compliance.

API Standards:
API sets the standards for the oil & gas pumping industries. The API (American Petroleum Institute) standards are used to define systems, tests and equipment design and are predominantly used in the oil and gas, petroleum and petrochemical industries. Pumps that meet these standards are some of the highest quality available in industry. API 685 relates to sealless magnetic drive pumps and API 610 details mechanically sealed pumps.
API 685 Standard (Sealless Pumps)
The scope of the API 685 standard covers the minimum design, testing, dynamics, and metallurgical requirements for sealless centrifugal pumps. Included are single stage pump designs for magnetic drive pumps of both synchronous and eddy-current / torque ring drive designs and also canned motor pumps.
This specification, initially released in October 2000, standardizes the application of sealless pumps in petroleum, heavy-duty chemical and gas service industries. API 685 is the sealless pump equivalent to API 610, which is well known and has been accepted as industry standard for sealed centrifugal pumps for many years. HMD Kontro has been building sealless magnetic drive pumps for oil & gas applications to API codes since 1983 and has a long association and history with the standard.

ASME Standards:
ASME is the registered trademark of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the leading international developer of codes and standards associated with the art, science, and practice of mechanical engineering. The first standard was issued in 1914 and since then almost 600 have been offered. These standards enhance public safety and health.
ASME B73 and ASME B73.3 Standards
ASME B73.1 and ASME B73.3 are the specifications in place for horizontal end suction centrifugal pumps used in chemical processes with the former applying to sealed horizontal, end-suction, overhung, radially split, single-stage, mechanically sealed pumps and the latter to sealless versions.
ASME B73.3 Standard
This is the ASME specification for sealless horizontal end suction centrifugal pumps for chemical processes. This standard applies to horizontal, end-suction, overhung, radially split, single-stage sealless pumps and defines both dimensional and best-efficiency head and capacity parameters. This means that pumps can be exchanged within the same grouping from any manufacturer without piping or foundation dimension change.
The standard specifies a number of key dimensions for pumps including dimensions such as overall height and length of the bare pump, nozzle and shaft diameters, the size, location and spacing of mounting bolts. It also specifies some performance characteristics and a number of design features that are intended to ensure reliable service and simplified maintenance. HMD Kontro pumps comply with all relevant aspects of the ASME B73.3 standard.
ASME B16.5 Standard
This is a specification for pipe flanges and flanged fittings. The scope of the standard includes defining and standardizing pressure and temperature ranges for: flange ratings within various material groups, flange dimensions for various ratings and fitting designs and flange bolts, including establishing tolerances covering the major flange dimensions and giving rules covering hydrostatic testing and the application of various raised face designs. HMD Kontro pumps comply with all relevant aspects of this ASME standards.
