Arvada, Colo., Sept. 14, 2011 - Sundyne Corp., a subsidiary of Hamilton Sundstrand, recently began shipments of select sealless magnetic drive pumps featuring the new ZeroLoss containment shell. To date, more than 50 pumps have been sold that include this new feature; the majority of which are built to API-685 standards. Hamilton-Sundstrand is a subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX).

This revolutionary shroud design extends the advantages of Sundyne's line of sealless magnetic drive pumps, demonstrating continued commitment to providing customers with improved efficiency and reduced equipment life cycle costs.

The ZeroLoss containment shell works by eliminating eddy current heating - a common issue with rotating equipment. This allows for higher efficiency ratings, which are most obvious on larger pumps with motors over 100 horsepower where reductions in the size of the magnetic couple and motor can lead to operational cost savings. In addition, smaller base plates can sometimes be specified, allowing for a reduced footprint and consequent space savings.

The HMD Kontro ZeroLoss containment shell is engineered from a proprietary material originally developed for modern, high-tech aircraft. This low mass material blend offers a range of benefits, including high impact resistance, a low co-efficient of thermal expansion and high electrical resistivity.

"Thanks to this rugged design, the ZeroLoss containment shell is capable of enduring the rigors of a wide range of process applications, including high-pressure injection well service, caustics handling, hydrocarbon processing, light oil transfer and water production," said Colin Guppy, general manager of Sundyne HMD Kontro.

With lowered energy requirements and overall utility costs - as well as the intrinsic benefit of a reduced carbon footprint - the ZeroLoss containment shell is set to become a value-added feature of the Sundyne sealless magnetic drive product line.
